Dr
Livingstone was the first European to see the
Victoria Falls in 1855. Known locally as Mosi-Oa-Tunya
or "the smoke that thunders" because of the
spray made by the mass of water dropping 100 meters
below in the gorges. Livingstone renamed the falls
Victoria Falls in honour of Queen Victoria. 50 Years
later, missionaries and traders settled in the small
Zambian town of Livingstone and the railway bridge
over the Zambezi was built.
The UNESCO proclaimed the Falls as a World Heritage
Site, due to its unique nature.

Nowadays, the Victoria Falls mark the
border between Zambia and Zimbabwe.
It has good road and air connections and is
an excellent starting point for a Safari
in Southern Africa.

Parks around the
Falls:
Around the Victoria Falls are some fine National
Parks such as Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park (Zambia),
Zambezi National Park (Zimbabwe) and Chobe National
Park (Botswana) which can all be visited without
checking out of Stanley Safari Lodge.

 |
Game viewing:
Besides game drives with comfortable Land-Rover
vehicles and experienced Bush Guides in the National
Parks close to the Victoria Falls, we also organise canoe
safaris on the Zambezi river and boat
trips which are an excellent opportunity to
see game (elephants, hippos, buffalos, rhinos...).

 |
Activities:
We are also eager to show you our neighbouring
traditional village which is over 800 years old or to
visit the Livingstone museum. Elephant backed safari,
Micro-lighting, Rafting, bunji jumping, etc can also
be organised, but this is not for the faint-hearted!
Every trip is entirely tailor-made to your wishes!
